257 Roberts
« on: October 19, 2008, 07:44:24 PM »
Anyone have any experiene with the 257 Roberts?  I just picked one up in a Ruger Hawkeye!!   Gonna work on loads for it this spring.  Would love to hear the good the bad and the ugly.  Load info would also help.

Thanks everyone

I have a .257 AI, but I can tell you this, that caliber is a deer killer for sure.  I am shooting 115 gr. Ballistic tips out of my AI, and it loves em like candy.  Oh, and it works great on Coyotes as well.
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

I use a 25-06 on Black Bear and Deer.  Its very similar to the Roberts and I handload my loads fast.  Exceptional firearm in my opinion and with practice will provide you plenty of shooting pleasure.

I'd like the new Hawkeye in the 375 Ruger myself.

I shoot a .257 in a ruger m-77.  Love that gun, my first rifle from my dad and have killed both Deer and antelope, sweet gun and load.  87 grain spitzer loaded with IMR 4350 powder.

my mom has been using one for almost 30years and wont shoot any other caliber. i have offered her my rifles on hunts so she doesnt have to carry a 8lb gun and she just wont. there is just to much confidence in that caliber and the damage it does at long ranges is amazing. i think she shoots 115gr corlokts but im not sure, ive never seen her lose an animal nor take more then one shot at any range. that caliber just performs perfectly for deer imo (from what ive seen)

Once upon a time i had a ruger m77 257 and i regret getting rid of that gun really bad, i see it occasionally because my buddy has it and it reminds me everytime that i am a *censored*.I loaded up a bunch of ballistic tips (been to long to remember specifics) my buddy just loves that load, its worked well for him.My next gun will probably be a 257....i miss mine :'(
