Sounds like you might have hit a bit low through the breast w/o any vitals.  Both birds I've gotten with the bow went right down, one was trying to fly but had a broken wing to go with his internal injuries and the other had a broken hip and wing and basically fell on his face after the shot.  Both shots were pass thru so I wouldn't have worried about having too much energy.

How close did you get for your shot?  Just curious, no bashing planned.

i think you may be right on where i hit.i was leading him due to him walking in.it was 30 yards on the dot when he walked in.i had my decoys at 20 yards n i think he would have come all the way to them,but i fealt really good of the shot.
i play it over and over in my head.i dont think i needed to lead him at all,i think i coulda waited 60 more seconds n made a 25 yard shot or 20.idk i know i am screwin up,and i appreciate all of your advice.
they have fled my property for the time being.i could not get a peep out of em last night.

Everyone of us "screw up" ... even the pros on TV ... that eventually makes us better at harvesting thunderchickens ... it's a learning process we all go thru ... heck they are still teaching me "lessons" every year.  Just go out and have fun in god's great outdoor church and harvesting birds will take care of itself.  You'll then realize the pursuit (especially when with friends and family) means more than the harvest.

Yeah sounds like a low shot. My first attempt on archery was just that at 15yds. I dropped the bow hand as I shot and while still scoring an 8 ring in a tourney, i cut no vitals at all went througjt the breast and off he ran. Never recovered him. The saying in archery turkey is "Hit'em high,watch'em die. Hit'em low,watch'em go." It happens. I know you probably don't feel good about it like I still do but it does happen. Good luck.

i really enjoy interacting with my envirnment.n as you stated its that much better with loved ones.im sure i will harvest a bird.i just hate when my lack of skills result in wounded game
