Make sure it is dead before the "hugging a dead lion" pic.

I've been in the woods for many years and probably seen 5 cats only one ended up dead. I would try calling for them, I never have but it seems to be the best way to kill those sneaky *censored*s. Few guys on here should give you lots of help with calling in cougars, I really hope you kill one.

find their food. small herd of elk, some deer, maybe even fish splashing in the stream.

Find fresh tracks and follow it until you see one or find Carcass and sit on tree stand nearby. or Call them in.
Oh I forget, You can Ask Hounds...
Joke...
If you find very fresh like this picture that Cougar kill it and cover with branches or snow cover, Cougar will Come back VERY soon and Cougar normal stay around for 1 to 3 days on carcass depend on which Cougar.
This pic of the Mother Cougar that killed it and help feed three kittens for three days.

The 180's would make it more deader.
Do a search on here. Lots of info on calling, etc. not too many people see them, never mind shoot one. I like the idea of walking one down in a fresh snow.

Anything less than a 250gr pill travelling at or more than 3000fps is under-gunned for MT Lions
j/k 165 out of 30-06 is a plenty - just make sure your accurate.

Why not drop down to the 110 grain varminter load for the cats especially if you want to keep the hide; they aren't that hard to kill with decent shot placement, bout like shooting a coyote
