okay  this year its going to to be mt lions and coyotes is what im after. I havent seen many deer but alot of coyote tracks and scat.


what kind of call would i use?

One word for you...."Rainshadow"  He will either be on here or on other hunting 4m's.  He is the guy to talk to.  Everything I know about calling cougars has been learned from him.

How far can you hit a pie plate size area? Your gun with shoot 3 or 4 hundred yards, but with open sights that's gonna be your call on your effective range.

I would recommend changing the question of how far can you hit a pie plate sized area to how far can you hit a POT PIE dish sized area

  .223 works just fine ...Flops them right in there tracks  Why would you want to blow a big hole threw one and make more work for your taxidermists

Be prepared to make many sets. Ive yet to kill one, but have called them into range. We average about 50 stands per sighting. However I am a bowhunter and the bow leaves much to chance, but it will happen eventually.  I.E.  I missed

I used  C-3 reed from burnham brothers calls and a piece of black fuel line.
One .223 to the head as she came in and peeked over a blow down

Ive heard of many people calling them in with turkey calls around klickitat, troutlake, glenwood, goldendale area.  I would wait until december/ january and hit some fresh snow and a turkey in distress call.  Had a buddy call one in in the winston elk hunting last september, came sneaking into a cow call and got a warning shot with the xd and disappeard into the brush.  I say call em or cut fresh tracks then call em.

Look for fresh track in the snow or if you find a fresh kill one the kitty shouldn't be to far. Without hounds it makes it tough.  Here is my cat from this year.  What you would call dumb luck.  Yote hunting and got lucky.  2nd cat I have seen in over twenty years of hunting
