Heres your chance...

to call me an idiot
. I ran into two bulls that had both shed. I didn't want to push them since it was spring so I just sat and watched them and they eventually moved on. I found a couple sheds and was pretty excited. Well I get back and I take a gander at the picture. Is that a shed laying in front of him....did he just shed......I go back there a coupel days later and the antler is GONE. No stick, no log no nothing. Just boot tracks.

That's pretty funny. How far away were you when you took the pic?

Just a hunch - but if it makes you feel better, it appears that he's not bloody on the pedicle, in fact, it appears to be growing over. Looks like he shed a week earlier or so. I'd say he didn't drop that antler (assuming it is one) but is likely on a trail that bulls were using when you caught him there on film.

Or it could be the hair still standing up from just dropping. I have seen that before. It stays up a few inches for a while. You really know he just dropped when you see that.

Well thats sort of what I figured and why I wasn't really paying attention, or paying closer attention to the bull. I started looking at the picture though and if you have shed hunted much, know that is a very characteristic look. anyhow.......my loss. DANG Usually its an open wound and bright red, though I don't recall what the other side looked like. He probably dropped it a day or two earlier and just happened to be standing over it.

The spot that looks like a antler is just dirty snow and it melted off by the time you got back up there

That's why you should never take pictures
. That way you would've never known what you missed out on!
