Heres your chance...
« on: October 06, 2008, 11:31:39 AM »
to call me an idiot.  I ran into two bulls that had both shed.  I didn't want to push them since it was spring so I just sat and watched them and they eventually moved on.  I found a couple sheds and was pretty excited.  Well I get back and I take a gander at the picture.  Is that a shed laying in front of him....did he just shed......I go back there a coupel days later and the antler is GONE.  No stick, no log no nothing.  Just boot tracks.

Just a hunch - but if it makes you feel better, it appears that he's not bloody on the pedicle, in fact, it appears to be growing over.  Looks like he shed a week earlier or so.  I'd say he didn't drop that antler (assuming it is one) but is likely on a trail that bulls were using when you caught him there on film.

Or it could be the hair still standing up from just dropping. I have seen that before. It stays up a few inches for a while. You really know he just dropped when you see that.

Well thats sort of what I figured and why I wasn't really paying attention, or paying closer attention to the bull.  I started looking at the picture though and if you have shed hunted much, know that is a very characteristic look.   anyhow.......my loss.  DANG  Usually its an open wound and bright red, though I don't recall what the other side looked like.  He probably dropped it a day or two earlier and just happened to be standing over it.

That's why you should never take pictures  ;).  That way you would've never known what you missed out on!
