What is your go to gun for rattle snakes?
« on: April 20, 2013, 09:33:40 PM »
I have made a little extra money this month and want to buy a pistol to use primrily for rattle snakes.  I just want to be armed in case i see one while fishing or hiking in sagebrush.

What is every ones favorite? I was thinking a little 22 or something.

Not looking to spend a whole lot on it either.

if you dont want to get gouged on getting a pistol, go for a 22.  the ammo is/was cheap and easy to get.  the gun is light and wont hurt your wallet.  i would get one with at least a 4-6 inch barrel, cuz the longer barrel the more accurate but harder to carry.  i have killed many rattlers with stuff all the way to a 7 mag, shotguns really do the trick on snakes.  be careful removing the rattles, like stand on the head.  mike w

I bought an S&W Model 17 revolver back in '66.  Loaded with 22 crimp shot cartridges it's instant death to rattlesnakes.
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"

The only time I would encounter a snake would be while bird hunting, therefore I would probably shoot it with the judge (if I had it with me), or the 12 gauge. The judge seems cooler to me  :chuckle:

What is really fun is showing it off to someone who doesn't know about guns by shooting clay pigeons out of the air. That is the best!  :chuckle: Or shooting 5 slugs (the slimy kind) with one shot. That is fun too  :chuckle:  They are a "blast!"
