Good call for rookie?
« on: April 28, 2013, 12:52:20 PM »
Been reading the calling threads and wondering what would be a good call to get? Like something fairly easy to use to start with. Can upgrade later if nessasary. What's the reason we can't use electronic calls? My Foxpro has several turkey sounds on it...

Box calls are very effective calls and very easy to use. I would start with one of them.

I use a box or slate call. Do yelp calls until you hear one gooble. Then a few soft calls, then shut up. The tom will know exactly where you're at and come walking right in.

Don't use a decoy in the morning but i do use a single hen in the afternoon in a small clearing. This way the can see there's a hen waiting for him after he been called at all moring long from other hunters. It works every time for me.

Thanks! I'm gonna give it a try next weekend.
