Spring hunt anymore?
« on: April 25, 2013, 07:10:45 AM »
For 5 years I did the spring turkey hunts and never bagged one.  Always spotted and got excited but then never seen them again when opening day rolled around.  Where do these things go?  I have sat dawn till dusk under and away from roosts, trails, and private property.  I thought the permission on private land was going to be the score but tresspassers are a huge problem when other properties border.  But the thing that really put a sour taste in my mouth was when I was helping a land owner, a guy I know shows up.  I meet him first and say hi and ask him are you looking for permission?  He says yes and wants to take a nephew out for his first turkey.  I say cool lets hunt together since I have permission here with other places and will have no problem letting the youngster bag one first.  I just want to learn how to hunt them.  Well, that punk walks by me and walks up to the owner and starts to give this sob story about taking his nephew out who never hunted before almost to tears.  Since I had permission the owner said no and the sad part was I got to see this act many time that day even before his and for some reason he thought his sorry sad act would win.

Now I can't even think about taking someone new out hunting because I start to feel the slime rolling off my back like that  user does.   That was the only reason he used a kid was to get permission for himself. For all I know there was no nephew in his life, maybe just using kids.  Either way just a kid user as I see him, not a turkey hunter.
Don't read my post if facts hurt your feeling.

Sorry to hear about this, but please don't let a guy like that rob you of taking other "good" guys or kids out hunting. I can tell you that helping a friend or any kid get a bird gets me more excited than getting another one for myself.  No matter what you do or where you go, you will run into this sort, but you can't let them rob you of these experiences.
