Another one for a new hunter

  Here's the story not an ordinary turkey hunt
A friend of mine said he had a friend who wanted take his son turkey hunting it was a bucket list item he wanted to do I said sure then asked what are his limitations he said walking was difficult so I new I had a challenge on my hands . To top it off his son has never been hunting and never shot a shotgun . I met them Sunday took em out shooting and showed them around the gorge where I live then went up to listen for birds we found one bird a couple hundred yards from the road so in the morning we started walking in I knew right away he wasn't going to make it the rest of way told his son to take his gun and said hang on and threw over my shoulder got him to the edge of The field before the sun was up. Birds sounding off all morning got a. Jake to come in to decoy but when the dad moved so did the bird so we waited a awhile with no luck he was still in his words aw .so we did a evening hunt and the next morning same issue with the some didn't move at the right time but they were in aw.
So Wednesday the dad stayed and wanted sleep in and watch turkeys in the yard .
So we were in the brush along the fence line at 430 daylight we heard several sounding off a couple hens came in but no toms then it got quiet til ten there was a comotion in the woods turkeys were going nuts sounded like a fight. Toms were talking about every hour or so we weren't leaving til dark about noon on was gobbling about 100 yards away so Isis a couple soft calls he was gobbling I said he's coming don't shoot til I pat your back all of a sudden 10 yards away leaves rustling the a gobble crap he's going to see us but he seen decoys and went out he had the gun on him the hole time I think I tortured him I was videoing it for his dad I didn't let him shoot for five minutes Tom was strutting gobbling I tapped him he shot he ran out there basically tackled it a very memorable moment
I hope that if I have a bucket list someday someone would do the same

If drifting the Klickitat River is on your bucket list I would be willing to take you. I know you don't know me but for what you did with that father and son I know you must be a stand up guy. I do well with summer steelhead and fall chinook. Hit me up if your interested.

Funny thing. I grew up in Kalama and learned to fish on the north fork.

That is an awesome story. Looks like I'm going to try and make it down on the 3rd and stay the night and hunt the 4th and possibly the 5th.

  You still are getting a big ATTA BOY from me ... very nice, generous thing ... but isn't that what it's about ... special memories there ! 

Funny thing, I was born in Vancouver, first 5 years in Yacolt, and 13 years in Hockinson area (Battleground grad_.  My dad was a cat and grater operator for the USFS (put in the Chelatchee Ranger Station, Swift Creek Ranger Station and campground, as well as building and maintained the roads ... also worked out of Troutdale Ranger Station a lot and maintaining the USFS roads up that direction ... we fished the Columbia at Woodland and Kalama bars as well as out of our boat, smelted on the north fork, trout fished Swift Creek, Yale, Merlin ... and hunted all over Clark County.   Small world ...

Sounds like we have hunted a lot of the same ground I worked in Clark county for twenty years hanging gutters I know a lot of people in bg my son graduated from the three years ago

First house I ever lived in was in Yacolt. My dad worked at IP. We hunted all over that area. We still have friends in Amboy area.

I go down every year either for a BG high school reunion or a Hockinson junior high school reunion ... last year for both.  Problem is I was a little disappointed because I go to see all the neat kids I grew up with and all these old farts show up.      

I've hunted Yacolt Mountain, Bell Mounatin, Larch Mountain, the Washougal, Speileye Hill (spelling?), Mt St Helens area, etc as a young man (so many years ago).  So many good memories ... couldn't ask for a better place to grow up.     Many friends still scattered thoughout that area ...

As stated before if drifting the Klickitat in a drift boat and catching a steelhead is on your bucket list hit me up this summer. I think what you did is a stand up thing to do.
