Wolves Eating Bears?
« on: April 26, 2013, 09:26:04 AM »
I just spoke to a buddy who lives in the Idaho panhandle said that his neighbor, who is a very serious trapper has seen two different locations where Wolves have dragged hibernating black bears out of dens and eaten them. has anyone else heard such reports?

this is second hand info and i have no pics to back it up but wow, if that is true i am kinda impressed by those dogs.

I found a post a few years ago from a guy in Canada who said that where there are many wolves, they will get full grown grizzlies out of their den in the winter time and "play" with them until they are wallowing around in their own guts. Another guy answered him from Minnesota and said they were finding black bears that the wolves were killing in the winter the same way.

I've heard this before.  Also heard about how wolves keep waking the bears when they should be hibernating and the bears use up their energy needed for the cold...so they basically starve to death.

I witnessed 2 young cougars in Dayton taking on a Coyote during the 2010 elk season. Both cougs went after him and they tore each other up pretty good. The coyote just laid on the hill side for a good 45 minutes. He was wounded pretty bad. He eventually limped up over the hill and disappreared. The local game warden was sitting in his truck next to me, as we watched the spat together. He said the cougs will hunt the coyote down later that night and finish him off. Apparently it happens regularly. I was suprised witness such a thing...

Too bad you didn't shoot one of those cougs, I know a guy that lives over there and between him and his son they have killed 4 cougars in 4 years. Most people won't see 4 in their lifetime. Cougars in the blues are out of control, way over populated, if you love elk then the next time you see a cat-kill it if you can.
“In common with”..... not so much!!

Trust me, I wouild have. I even had a tag. The problem was, they were literally within feet of posted property and the game warden was sitting in his truck next to me. I was not going to push my luck. This was the first and only cougar sitting I have ever seen.
