Do you put in individually or group for cow tags?
« on: April 28, 2013, 08:09:44 PM »
Done the group thing this year 4 guys 14 points among us for a unit with 250 cow tags. Not sure if this is a good idea or not!  Hows the group odds look?

I've drawn cow tags in a group of 4 2 times. This was before the new draw system. Each time was with 2 pts average.

With that many tags given out, I don't think your odds will be hurt that much at all. The one thing to consider is if you guys are drawn, you will be working more than hunting, hopefully you guys can kill cows that like to hang out by the road!! I quit putting in with my elk partner for quality bull just so we could hunt insted of pack on a real quality tag, with a cow hunt, I would just go have fun. Good luck in the draw.

We would have done that slightly different. 2 groups of two partnerships with the two highest point holders together and the two lowest point holders together. If everyone draws then great, but if one pair draws this year both pair participate and split the meat. Then in the next year or two the other pair should draw and do it all over again.

I like that idea.

I hunt in a large group and we put in separately.  Not just because we have better odds but it is fun to have a couple in camp each year instead of one year when we have a lot and then many years with none.

myself, my dad, and grandpa put in as a group. we didnt have much luck doing the individual thing, but since we have been getting tags every other year or every 3rd year. we generally put in for areas where the permit to applicant ratio is 1/4 or 1/5.

I am good with the group thing this year, I wanted to change it up. If we draw we will be busy!!  Heck I feed the cows around camp apples during hunting season!

18 points for cows, but I will ghost point untill my quality and bull tags are drawn. When I do apply it will be with a few of my buddies, make a fun trip out of it.

Can't help myself, I just want to make sure that there will be one drawing from this state that I will draw when I apply for it. I figured 18 might be enough.

I like the idea of the 2 groups of 2. Our group always applies individually, but our point structure is about perfect for that set up. Might have have to do that next year.
I hunt, therefore I am.... I fish, therefore I lie.
