Ar 15 question for those in the know!!
« on: April 28, 2013, 09:04:21 PM »
What fore grip do you guys like.  I have a new weapon mounted light with preasure switch and am thinking it would be best mounted on a fore grip.

Thanks

Johnny

I have a Crimson Trace MVF 515G. It is expensive but good quality. its all in one little package: grip, pressure pad, light, and laser. No stupid little cables sticking out here or there waiting to get caught on something and torn off. Only adds about 10 ounces to the gun. Laser lights up the neighbors garage across the street in broad daylight (special note from my attorney: do this before you attach it to your rifle). They're a bit on the spendy side but if you're friends with any dealers they might be able to hook you up with a stellar price. I think I paid about $450 for mine.

I have this one... The side panels come out and a surefire pressure switch slides in... It really was designed around the surefire switches.  Best of all it also has a battery compartment for storing extra batteries for your surefire... and at $9, its a great deal and doesn't break the bank.

I will post some pictures of how I ran my setup later this morning... But I am running a FF II as a back up optic on a offset rail, which virtually eliminates the cord for my light...

Are you talking about a foregrip in general or the one I posted?

I love my Magpul vertical foregrip.  A lot of vertical foregrips on the market are just too long and cheap/dorky looking.  The Magpul VFG won't allow for a pressure pad to be installed inside of it though.

I had the Magpul angled foregrip for a while, but didn't care for it that much.  The same hand position can be used with a VFG if you use the right technique.  Now the AFG sits on my AR pistol.  :)

I looked at the Magpul vfg today and really liked it.  I can still mount my pressure switch to the grip or to the quad rail and activate with my thumb or pointer finger....I think it will work wrell.   I don't like the feel of the angled grips either...my had feels funny and torqued weird.

Here is my setup... The light is a surefire scout, that's a UTG foregrip with the pressure switch and the 7" cord run up and around my backup optic. Also inside the grip is 3 CR123s for my surefire.

Looks like you need to upgrade to a rifle length rail.  :chuckle:

If we're showing pictures, here's mine with the Magpul VFG as it is now.

Very nice.  :)  What kind of an upper did you put on it?  Some kind of a modified A2?  I've never seen one like that.

 :yeah:

These are supposed to be lightweight carbines, not a mounting point for everything you can imagine. What's with having two optics? It would be somewhat understandable if one was a magnified and the other not, but they both appear to be CCO optics. Use the BUIS, that's what they are for. Or, since you seem to have the rifle set up for close range work, just learn to shoot without the sights. Lasers, other than IR for designating, are worthless. Lights should be attached close to the magwell to keep the weight of the weapon as balanced as possible. Grips, if used, should be placed as far forward as possible to give the most stable firing position.

All that said, it's your rifle, do what you want with it.  :twocents:

It is an A3 upper (flat top) with the a RRA tactical mount sight.  The plan will be to add a reflex sight one of these days with a quick detach mount so I have both iron and reflex cababilities.  For now I really like the open sights so it will be a while before I justify the expense of a reflex sight.
