Yelp Jr's First Longbeard
« on: April 28, 2013, 10:19:41 PM »
Wow what a wonderful day.  My son Logan (11) got it done this afternoon.  We chased this big gobbler around all weekend and we finally got it done.  Logan made a beautiful shot at 25 yds with his 20 gauge.  Gobbler was 18.5 lbs had 9 7/16" beard and had 7/8" and 1" spurs.  We had this gobbler at full strut at 45 yards.  I was using the Phelps Glass over slate and had him coming, then the live hens yelped and stopped the gobblers in thier tracks at 45 yds.  They did an about face and went away with  the hens.  Logan and I quickly did a position adjustment (up and around) to get in front of the flock and the rest is history. To see him shake with excitement and grin made my day!  I am so proud of him.  Best hunt of my life!  :)
Wild Turkey, Walleyes, Whitetails and Wapiti..These are a few of my favorite things!!

Great job and awesome 1st bird!!
Lord , we've been here on days before
and often times you've let me score
Now do you think that on this day
you could send a gobbler down my way?
And , if not , just let me say--
you've given me another day
to hunt the bird I love the best.
I don't mind sharing with the rest

Are you getting mounted for him? Only regret I had I didn't mount Callie's first. That pic of you and him would look good in a 5X7 or larger right next to the mount or fan.

Awesome job congrats to both.  A forever memory.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.
