PathfinderJR Scores on a Jake
« on: April 29, 2013, 09:56:36 AM »
Tough season this year for us.  I had to work last weekend, and will have to work for the next 3 in a row, but this weekend fellow shooting coach Darin Larsen from Oregon City came up to hunt with us.  He is a genius turkey caller (hunting with him was like attending a 2 day seminar for me), and managed to pull a group of 7 jakes into the dekes a couple of times.  Though Darin and I didn't want to kill jakes, PathfinderJR was fine with it, so we let him pound one Saturday night.  JR made a nice shot at 30+ yards and the bird flopped its way into the river (that's why he's all wet).  Happy kid, proud dad.  That's what really matters, right?
We saw a couple of longbeards, but there was a lot of pressure on the public land where we were hunting, and they kept getting pushed back and forth across the river so neither of us scored.  Still, we had a great weekend and JR got to fill one of his tags, so it wasn't a total loss.  Thanks Darin for all the tips and tricks.

Yeah he is.  I couldn't believe some of the sounds he was able to make.  He brought us a couple of his First Strike Turkey calls too.  A real stand up guy.  Like I said, it was like attending a 2-day turkey seminar for me.
