Looking for bow hunting partner in Skagit valley
« on: July 01, 2013, 07:28:51 PM »
I Just transfered to seattle (Coast Guard) and am living in Sedro Woolley, I plan on hunting as much as I can during the elk, deer and possibly black bear seasons.  I am 28 and am serious about getting into bow hunting.  All of my equipment is ready to go and I have just been practicing.  I plan on doing hike/camp hunting trips on the weekends I have available.  I am looking for a house to buy right now but hopefully most will be taken care of by Sept 1st.  I have hunted Moose, Caribou, Duck, Rein Deer in Alaska and Whitetails up near northport, wa.  I am not inexperienced but I am rusty and new to bow hunting (last 4 years stationed in boston the hunting sucked)  Anyway if anyone wants a hunting companion reply or message here.  A few days out of the season my 8 year old will tag a long but i can take him alone, I just want to get him out in the woods and learning.

Coastie,

My usual areas for deer hunting are a bit north of you,  Whatcom county.  My son and I will be out in the woods during Aug. looking for a Blackie while scouting for deer archery opener Sept. 1.
We'll be carrying rifles in Aug. then I switch to the bow, son will be along on some trips, but he chose muzzleloader for deer season so his deer hunt comes later. He is an 11 year old who loves the forest, but doesn't care much for sittin' and being quiet!
It would be great to have a few days in the field with the youngsters. --My wife tells me I take this stuff too seriously, and he doesnt, although he can cover a lot of ground if the mood is right.

Will send contact info. to your PM mailbox.

Son just got his tags / license in the mail today.
Been putting some bits on his rifle for bear hunting, found a Redfield scope mount base that has a flip-up peep sight on the rear- just in case-, didn't have sling mounts from the factory, now it does.
Wife went to Marysville and got me a foam block target for checking my sight settings with broadheads.
A couple of days ago Son was going on a sledding day trip and a Black Bear ran across the road in front of the van full of kids!
Less than 3 weeks 'till  Aug1st !

Since you are a bow hunter you may consider joining Silver Arrow Bowmen. It is a great place to practice and you have the opportunity to meet other hunters. I have meet some great people there. Right now membership is Half price. $15+ $10 initiation for the rest of the year for a single or $30 for a family. We now have a 50 target walk through course as well as a covered flat range.

We are also on Face book
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.
