Just strictly fed up.
« on: May 04, 2013, 12:58:42 AM »
Probably gonna take a break from practicing with the bow. Its gotten to the point to where Ive taken all my practice tips and thrown them right in the trash just so I cannot shoot. Tired of breaking arrows, losing arrows, and costing myself money due to my bow just being out of whack. I know things arent lined up correctly and yup.
Just cant do it anymore. Gotta find myself a job before I even imagine getting back to it. On the brighter side. Hunters ed is coming up on the 20th. Looking forward to seeing what thats all about

Too much practice not enough time chasing critters!  Happens a lot this time of year.  Time for that new string and cables I guess.  I leave on Friday for my spring bear hunt.  Not sure when I'm coming back as I plan on staying until I've got blood on my knife and meat in the cooler.  But I will call you before I leave Colville so we can try to meet as I'm traveling through.  I can pick up the bow and get it restrung and do a hootertune for ya.  Might cost you some good home made peanut butter cookies

You can be a scouter, or a photo taker. You don't have to be hunting, Smoss!! Get out and burn some boot leather. RadSav you never cease to amaze me, man. You're a good dude.

" In today's instant gratification society, more and more pressure revolves around success and the measurement of one's prowess as a hunter by inches on a score chart or field photos produced on social media. Don't fall into the trap. Hunting is-and always will be- about the hunt, the adventure, the views, and time spent with close friends and family. " Ryan Hatfield

You can say that again. Great dude. Yeah I would but one. I drive a cadillac so its hard to get to some spots to scout, two I wouldnt even know where to scout if I wanted to. Everything is so new to me, three my only camera is a gopro so lol Its not great for photos. No zoom and crappy macro quality. It will all come in time.

Hey Smossy - Those colors you chose are looking very nice!  But I have to say you had that bow set up very nice.  Not sure the string and cables were the problem.  Just a little tweeking with the arrow rest and nockset height is all I could see.  But this thing is going to look WAY cooler in about 15 minutes   That might be all it was lacking :chuckle:

Wow!  That's a dang good shooting bow too   Just finished the first 50 shots with the new string and cables.  Peep hasn't even begun to turn.  So I'm not even going to bother with the next 50.  Let you do that on your own.  Looks good, shoots good, and I like what you've got there.  If it had some deer or elk blood on it...it would be perfect.

I bet I've made more than 100 strings and cables for Hoyt bows in the past.  Never in that time have I had the factory specs result in perfect cam timing.  The control cable always needs twisting one way or another.  It's been bad enough that I quit making the control cables until I have the new string and power cable made and on the bow.  I then twist the old control cable in or out until I get perfect timing.  I then measure that cable and make the new one to that length.  Usually that puts the control cable 1/8" to 5/32"" from the factory spec when measured under 100# tension/ATA standard.  I need not have bothered on this bow.  First ever perfect Hoyt I've held in my hands!

I knew they existed...but was beginning to think I would never see one :chuckle:
They do exist!!! :IBCOOL:

So will the string stretch at some point or no? (Making the peep rotate) and if it does what do I do with it then? Hey you can put some bear blood on it if you want lol  I wouldnt mind. Hopefully Ill be able to fill atleast a nice mulie tag with it this year, Gonna be rough first year out but ill be picking up all my tags just incase I happen to walk upon a bear or something. Appreciate everything your doin for me buddy, glad to hear you like my setup. Thats encouraging for me to know I have solid equipment. Not sure if it being in such good shape is sheer luck or just lack of taking it on the field. Ive put hundreds of shots through it though. Hate to ask for anything else but do u know how fast its shooting by any chance? And whats the weight set at? I havent tested it first hand so Ive never truely known, had it adjusted at one point and I think he said 62lbs. But the rating is 50-60lbs for the bow so not sure how that comes into play. Cant wait to see it! Ohh colors!

I took the time to do this one right knowing you have limited access to shops where you are at.  So floating yoke, power cable, control cable and string have all been pre-stretched @300# for at least one hour each before serving was applied. Then serving was applied while at the same 300#. The same I would do on all my own strings.  If that peep did not move in the first 50 shots I expect it will not move ever.  But there is always a chance something could give :dunno:  If that happens a good pro shop can make the adjustments.
