1st Time Hunting near Colville and Chewela

Heading up this week to try and bag a tom near Colville. I know no one wants to give away their honey hole, but are there any back roads or trails I should consider? So far I will stick to public land. Any help is appreciated and good luck out there!

I am leaving myself in about 4 hrs 15 minutes. Going over to hunt and camp public land around Colville, Kettle falls. If you see my camp stop in we will swap lies. Look for Ghost Camp. My sign will be out. Will be there till the 11th.
Look for turkeys on public land near running water. And dont go in at lunch stay out mid day is a good time to catch them. Check out the Sherman Creek Wildlife area and Little Penn.
Good luck

There's plenty of state land also ... Slide Creek, Vanasse, Haller Creek, etc. Get a DNR map at their office in Colville and look for creeks.

By all means do not go in for lunch. Take something with you and set quietly and listen while eating lunch. If you have done any calling besides listening, don't move, they often come in quite and very cautious midday. I would say 9:am till 2:pm the premium time to be out.

Skunked! I tried all around Haller Creek with no luck... Also no luck at Sherman Creek. Any thoughts?

I've had good luck positioning myself almost to the top of the ridge 1 hour before daylight just listening and then moving in for a calling setup when they gobble and before they flydown. Once I'm in their kitchen, I just call enough to let them know I'm there ... then I shutup until I know they're on the ground. Then I let them know that their 12 ga breakfast is ready for them to eat.
