Rod Advice

I'm looking for a new spinning rod, something with fairly fast action and light enough to have some fun with Silvers/Steelhead. I have a few MH spinning rods but like I said, I would like something with a little less backbone. Any recommendations would be appreciated.? Price range is $100-$200.

Cabela's magtouch rod is an awesome rod  I don't pay much attention to the speed of the action though; I just like ML or M rods.

For that price range you should be able to get a really nice rod that fits your needs.

I would highly recommend getting your hands on the rod before you buy. Don't order unless you know exactly what you want- there's simply too many variables.

Don't know what kind of rod selection the stores in your area have. Go to store/stores and check out as many rods as you can. A place like Sportco/Outdoor Emporium or Bob's in Longview would have you going out the door happy. Big names (Loomis/Lami/etc.) certainly make nice rods, but they're not the only ones to consider. Last spin rod I bought was a 9.5 med light Berkley for my son and its a very nice rod for around $75.

Preferred length and action in a spinning rod depends on personal choice as well as intended use.
You mention silvers/steelhead  and a fairly light action. I personally don't like a light spin rod in anything under 9 ft unless its just for throwing spinners. 9 ft makes a good spinner/drift rod. Upwards of 10 feet you get into weight/action issues with many moderately priced rods- but you need that much length for float fishing imo. 9 1/2- 10 feet is a good combo length- not too top heavy for nice drift response, but still long enough for effective float fishing in most circumstances. So match the rod to your intended style at least somewhat.

Thanks for the advice guys. What I'm looking for is a rod in the 8'6" to 9 foot range for side drifting and possibly throwing spinners.

Perfect rod for drift fishing spinners and you can even float fish with it in a pinch. If I was limited to one rod it would be a toss up between that and a 10' 8-17.

My fave! And I thinks its perfect for a float rod. No in a pinch for me. Its my go to Silver Steelie rod!

I really like my Okuma's!  In fact I find myself leaving my Loomis at home and taking them instead.  For $200 you can get a couple rods, top them with Phlueger President reels and be ahead of the game, plus, if you accidentally break one you are not out a ton of cash and the company has a great warranty.  I LOVE them for steelhead and coho!

I would be looking at St. Croix. Really can't go wrong with their rods and the wild river line seems to fit your bill nicely!!! I've never had a bad experience with St. Croix.

Ugly Stiks are my forsure GOTO rod if I want to put a whoopin on it. I.e. throw large weights like 2oz.

I also love my Okuma's I have two of them. Both 10'+ Different weights so they have they're uses.
My Lamiglass is my goto salmon rod though at 11'

I got a boat load of Wild Rivers and Avids when I pro staffed for St Croix. Always buy 2 so when one breaks you have another while the broken one is getting sent in.
I finally gave em back and went back to Loomis.
The Avids were breaking super easy one really cold day on the Cow. The Wild rivers were breaking under strain of riggers and fish.

Save up for a little bit and get the 1141IMX, you wont regret it.
