Recurve practice?

How long should i be practicing before going out because i want to go out for bear when the season starts . But still Dont have my archery gear. Besides the bow ha any advice would be great cause i Dont want to go out maiming  animals pointlessley

The sooner the better. It takes awhile to get proficient with any bow and trad gear will take a lot longer to get the farther ranges down.

As soon as possible. Be honest with yourself and if you're not ready for Bear season skip it and go for Deer, you'll be happy you did if you're not ready. If you are ready, more power to ya!

Yeah i think i might put bear on hold this season. Which is disappointing but at least i will be sure next season

Good call on skipping bear this year. The last thing you want is to have to follow a poorly hit bear into that thick stuff you have on that side of the state .

Ive shot trad off and on my entire life and If I cant shoot 5-6 days a week, starting in June I wont hunt with my recurve. I think you are getting good advice here but I would suggest that when you get your bow that you find a club in your area and hook up with another trad shooter that will help you with proper form and technique and then shoot, shoot, shoot.

Bear opens aug 15th most units. go for it. No need to put it off. If youre not out there youre not hunting. Shoot as often as you can prior to the opener, youll be ready.

Sounds like he's new to archery and his bow hasn't even been delivered yet. Unless I read the original post wrong. I'd recommend against August unless he's a natural and can get a lot of shooting in between now and then.

I have the bow but i Dont have a stringer. Glove or armguard so i cant  practice until i get them and i am new to traditional. I picked up shooting the compound pretty quick but can't really say for trad  yet

Practice without the arm guard and you'll QUICKLY eliminate bad form. If it hurts, you'll change what you're doing...if it's protected you'll have no driving force to eliminate errors in your form.

You can make a stringer yourself. I shot 19 arrows today before I realized I didn't have an arm guard on.  Finished up at 21. Just shoot every other day, youll be there.

For some reason I was thinking spring bear.  If your talking fall bear with daily shooting and some coaching on the basics you should be more than ready by then. Good luck, Kenny

 Dont wait for anything.  Get practicing asap and have fun hunting.

Traditional archery is NOT for everyone.

Find a professional level instructor that has competed.

If you are new to bowhunting, I recomend compound first as you can get extremely proficient in a short amount of time.
