Bear poop??
« on: May 10, 2013, 05:57:01 PM »
So went hiking in a new area and found a ton of fresh bear scat.  This scat is some of the biggest I have ever seen.....no kidding it is the diameter of a pop can and about as long as a pop can.  The piles would easily fill a dinner plate heaping.  :yike:

So, to my question.  Will this bear stay in the general area till fall or will it travel vast distances between now and then?

Thanks for any insight.

Johnny

Sounds more like squatch scat to me.  :chuckle:

Most likely it will travel between now and then. Follow the food sources and you may be able to keep tabs on it's general travel area.

BTKR

I was affraid of that.....Either this is a huge bear, or it was just released from prison  :yike:  I have seen some big poop piles, but never have I seen logs that looked like coke cans.  I am gonna head out next week and place a trail cam if I find more fresh poo.  The three piles I found today were in approx 1 sqare mile...thick nasty steap terrain.  I really want to see this pig.

Thanks

Johnny

I agree!  About the time this food supply is changing a large boar like that will be traveling extensively looking to breed.  Then off to find summer food sources and eventually fall berries.  He will likely return to this area late fall if he's got a nice den.  So if you get some good topo's and start marking off the high concentrations of summer and fall forage in the area you should be able to target your efforts to find him in the fall with some qualified leads.

Good luck.  He sounds like a good one
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."
