Building new 7mm?
«

Hey guys just looking for some opinions! I bought a custom made shilen gun barrel certificate at the mule deer foundation banquet and now I'm gonna build a rifle. So I'm leaning towards a super light weight 7mm for a dall sheep hunt and just all around elk and bear gun. What would you guys chose as far as chambering, 7mm RUM, 7mm STW? And what weight barrel and twist rate would you go for? Thanks in advance for your time

Give Travis a call from R-Brothers rifle (sponsors on this site) and talk to him about the 7mm Rogue! A great, nicely thought out round!

For dall sheep.....284. Light short action, super proven in the lr world, plenty fast for 1,000 yard sheep kills if you do your part.

I know I know
I hate to say how many 270's I have and how many 7mm-08's as well
If I was building no way would I just pick a standard like those two. That is why I said the 6.5x 284 or 7stw.
I just like my 7-08's a little better then my 270 win's.
Now throw in the 270wsm and they both go out the window

Take a close look at the 7wsm for a lightweight rifle. For a long range I like the STW.
But I agree with the post above, talk to Rbros!

I agree with the above guys pushing 6.5 with 140's.....I have taken elk up to 700 with that recipie with a MV of 2900fps. I don't agree with light weight high horsepower rounds for sheep hunts. The light/high recoil gun is taxing as it gets on optics and that is the LAST place you want to have a scope crap the bed. I know because it happened to me on a limited tag one year with my 7# 300ultra. Sometimes a bit of conservation goes a long ways.

.280 great ballistics, low pressure, low recoil, very accurate.
