WPG on Point
« on: May 07, 2013, 12:30:58 PM »
Well, I haven't posted since I first got Remi at 10 weeks, but I was way too excited when I got this cool picture of him pointing at some quails on my property.  He's 8 months old now and training is coming along really well.  I can't wait until this fall!

Not a whole lot in this world that is more fun than watching a pointer on birds.  Especially those first few points.  Knowing that the pup is figuring it out.  Great looking pup you got there.

Nice looking ugly dog. I've only seen a few of them and disposition was super! never seen one work other than a video a couple years ago on Gun dog forum. Guy had a very nice one completely finished.
There's a reason I like dog's more than people

Here is my new GWP locked up on the family cat at about three months. (She is great on birds too!) Picture taken in August. Sending her away for several weeks of formal training next week.

Can't wait for this fall!

Madmooner, were you at Silver Creek last week? If so, what day did you run?

I got him from Skeeter Holler Farm, which is close to Cheney.  I've been wanting to take him to Double Barrel Ranch for formal training, but I'd like to get some input on it.

He's a good looking boy!

I don't know anything about Double Barrel Ranch.

Jim Cochran(sp?) has been highly recommended by several people I trust. I drove up to see him once and spent a little time. Great guy. I would like to start going to him on a regular basis. Time and funds though......Seems I always have one or the other, rarely both!

I looked up Jim Cochran Sporting Dogs and it looks like a great place, but it's on the wrong side of the state for me.  I understand the time and money issue and how they never coincide.  So far, my pup is impressing me, but I'd love for him to get some proper training.  I don't know of any other places in the Spokane area.

Another upland trainer around Spokane is Dunfur Kennels.  I have never dealt with them personally, but I have heard good things about Dan Hoke there.  Here is a link to there website: http://dunfur.com/.  I have shot clays out at double barrel several times and talked with Ron there about dogs and bird hunting and he seems like a really good guy too.

Holy Cow, thank you!  Dunfur Kennels is literally 4 minutes from my new house.  I checked out there website, I'll definitely be stopping by there soon.  Thanks for the heads up.

No problem.  Let me know how it is, if you ever go out there.  I have a 3 month old GSP that I am considering taking to get some good training when she grows up a little.
