I say forget about counting browtines, the third point should be past the first point or branch and be 2" or better.  It is a lot easier to distinguish a 2" point in a hurry than a 1".  It is too easy for the average guy to mess up on a little 1" browtine.

I just came across some pictures of a buck that my brother and I saw in the Pasayten in September of 2005. Fits right in on this thread.

Here are a couple more bucks from the same trip, and neither of these were legal bucks, the picture is not very clear so it's probably not possible to tell from the picture. But, I was within 50 yards and both of these bucks were completely safe, although I would not have shot either one even if a third point had made it legal, but I'm betting somebody else up there would have. I just wish I would have had a better camera with me at the time.

Thanks, and BTW that first buck was a 1x3, and the next time we saw him he was hanging in a tree. He was good enough for somebody!

I have not been modern arms hunting for big game since I left Alaska in 1999, so this three point rule to me is not big matter because I am VERY close to game when I release my arrow AND because of snafus with myself and friends  in Alaska I am going to be DAMN sure of myself before releasing the arrow.

As for the 1 inch rule: I don't trust my eye sight during a hunt to believe it could be 1 inch. I need to see a very positive point before shooting.(I believe the one inch rule is there since 1 inch is included when doing measurement for Boon and Crockett or Pope and Young)

By the way, this is an excellent topic.

I'm sure thats where they came up with the definition of a point.
By the way, here is the "two" point in question from the earlier post. So he obviously was legal.

Is he forked?

To me it would not matter.....I am not a good enough shot to thread the needle through all the brush. I would wait him out for a look/shot

I would have to wait, from the picture it is hard to see a 3rd pt. If I was using bions I'm might be able to see however all the brush makes it hard to tell.
