playing with your gun

I never "play" with my guns. although I have been known to get one out for no apparent reason, and thoroughly "inspect" it and then very carefully wipe it down to make sure that there are no finger prints left on it before I put it back.  But I would never dream of playing with one of my guns.

Absolutely......though I don't think of it as playing.....I call it training.  I will clear a firearm and then walk through a scenario in the house.....as if I had a home invasion.  I think of many scenarios and clear the house appropriately.  I always make sure the blinds are down and the doors are closed so the neighbors don't freak out.  I believe preparation and practice will pay dividends if I ever need to use it.

I will also practice proper draw technique with my sidearms....again in the heat of the moment if you haven't practice you are likely to falter.....this could mean a self inflicted wound.

I dont play with it I just clean it.

To quote the USMC "This is my rifle this is my gun this is for fighting this is for fun" You could be asking a personal question :-)
However where you mentioned pistol I have to answer that yes on a regular occasion I also wipe mine down and even strip it down for thorough cleaning even if not fired since last time. Have the wife handling the revolver (S&W 686) lately and practicing her sight picture.

I like to stage them all like a rock concert with the pistols singing to the rows of rifles. Although my display is pretty segregated since I don't have many black guns.

I clean it frequently. I tend to do it slowly, so that it's not over so quickly. A little lubrication, work it back and forth. I want to make sure it continues to function properly well into my advanced years.

  i did not want to mention everything cuz of shock and fright.  i also have guns hidden in the house in most every room and not in one spot.  one is in a cut out book , one in a sock , one in a hunting vest, one in a tool box, etc.  they are all away from where kids can get them.  mike w

I do all the time. Practice drawing quickly,loading and unloading quickly and engaging targets ....like doors ,windows, chairs...

I just took mine out again today. Cleared it, then worked the action a few times. Took it apart and put it back together. I have a problem, I think! This is a daily thing and I can't seem to stop doing it.

I have probably shot every picture in my house a couple hundred times, my wife's a couple thousand, 

I do trigger pulls all the time so I know exactly where it releases and how far it needs to reset.

Every time I insert a mag, my dog gets up and gives me "that look" and goes upstairs

Don't think I have ever played with the gun.  But I will have them out going through them.  I do have a target posted on my wall in my office and have used snap caps and went through range of motion as practice.

I'm new, I "play" with mine all the time, trying to build muscle-memory of drawing/aim/safety off/fire. A man with a knife at 15 feet will charge you faster than you can draw, clear the safety, and fire (most of the time).

For muscle memory, just like in Martial arts, you exaggerate it in practice, then it becomes natural when you need it.

I do the day before and morning of a Cowboy Action match, gotta keep the muscle memory in tact so it's like second nature.

I never play with them, I occasionally do dry fire drills and practice drawing from a holster with snap caps instead of live ammo loaded though. Now that I am a parent, I even try to avoid the terms "play", and "toy" when referring to firearms.
