Because they are worth it!  I shot competitively with mine for years.  My favorite of all of my handguns, even over my custom built revolvers!

The colt handguns are amazing. Can't go wrong with a python or king cobra if you are looking for a 357 :IBCOOL:

Of all the guns I've gotten rid of the Colt Python is the one I regret the most.
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."

I remember it being so smooth in double action you would feel the clicks.  Was almost like shooting a set trigger.  Aggressive through the first click, gental through the second.  Then I got the 686 and took me for ever to get the feel of a normal double.  I knew right then and there I had made a mistake by not keeping the Colt.  I think it took me three nights of lapping and polishing the Smith to get it even close to the factory Python double.

My 2 favorite revolvers.  My Python and my custom built S&W.  They look pretty tame but both have a trigger pull measured in ounces.  Definitely NOT for the novice.  I have warned friends about them and they still almost shoot themselves in the leg.

I like these threads, I learn every day.  If I walk by a yard sale and would see these revolvers there for a $100 I would walk right by.   Tells ya how much I know, lol

sounds like someone screwed with them, literally.  doesnt seem like a gun from a factory would do that.   mike w

They aren't made anymore, a buddy just sold a mint 6'' for $1500.00. Worth the $$ though a 4'' is more to my liking....

my understanding is that the python was the only production revolver where ALL of them went through the custom shop on the way out.. thus the triggers, etc.. very smooth, but pricy if you can find one..

I bought a new 4in blued Python about 18yrs ago and never got around to shooting it.  Then they started going crazy on price and I just kept it in its unfired fired condition.  To this day it's still new, unfired, in the blue box and that box is inside that thin colt cardboard box.  Every so often I check it all out and put it back in the boxes and tuck it away in my safe.
