Me an ol' Cooter got to our "secret" spot at 6:49 am, threw out the "deek" and whacked our limits by 7:30 am. We then processed them and went to town to git more ammo for Sunday's shoot. Yee Haw!!!! 4 mallards, 1 pintail, 9 widgeon and a Canada goose. I still can;t convince Cooter that he needs to concentrate on them bonus birds. Spoonies, teal, and butterballs. Pics to follow.

Myself and "The Diesel" couldn't decide on what pond we wanted to kill on.  Decided and ended up whacking ten (7 green wing teal, 1 pintail, 1 widgeon, 1 Mallard)  Pretty fun morning, should have limited.  We had 10 teal land in our decoys at 6:40 and them swim to the other side of hte pond at 6:50.  Pics to follow Im just exhausted right now.

Ok, so 7 teal=12 (5 drakes 2 hens)
1 mallard drake=1
1 widgeon=1
1 pintail (female damnit!)=1
1 Drake Gadwal=2
1 Hen Gadwal=1

With Partner=5 Points
Team Diesel and Silk=23 Point Weekend

I make a motion that we require better photo identification of birds.  I see a drake mallard, hen mallard, something else, something else and 6 teal.  Can you help us out here?

Team Donkey Punch will post weekend totals tomorrow.

There's really no need.  Identify your ducks, put up your pictures.  I mean do you want me to spread the wings out with detailed pictures?  BTW, it's not a Hen Mallard, it's a Hen Pintail.  If there is any REAL question as to what a duck is, we can try and get a better picture, but the order goes Mallard, Pintail, Widgeon then 7 teal.

I'm not very experienced at duck ID, but I've yet to see a pintail with what appears to be a black and orange bill?? :dunno:

Actually you are 100% right, I googled them last night, because it didn't seem right to me either, my partner was convinced, but it is actually a hen gadwal.  Same point difference, but good catch.

"we encourage you to IDENTIFY before you shoot!"   :bash:  apparently indentifying before you shoot no longer applies and if you cant even ID it after you shoot, you have no business hunting ducks.   :o

as well...  how do you add up to 17 points?  for the teal you are saying every one of them was a drake?  hmmmm

i guess thats how you get it done.

No points for our team, that rooster was bagged by my lab.  She locked up on him in some thick stuff at my feet and she just grabbed him out of the brush! Still had some egg shell stuck to him, couldn't have been more than 3 or 4 months old.

You guys are taking this overly serious.  I made a mistake based on advice for a duck.  After researching it and making the correct change.  If you continue to be *censored*s about it, I will just remove you from the competition.  That would be a sham considering if you can put up these types of numbers, you will probably clean up the tournament.  As for the teal, I read the point scoring system incorrectly, it says (any species) in my mind I thought it said any teal--crossing gender)  There were 5 drakes and two hens.

This is suppose to be fun guys, lets keep it that way.

I apologize for not being the "expert" duck ID person.  Identify before you shoot means don't shoot any illegal animals.

ALSO-  You claim 15 mallards but I only see 10 drakes, meaning you went over the daily bag limit on hens which is two per day.

Please explain that one further? We're actually under the daily bag limit by 3 hens.  That's a 2 DAY total on that there tailgate shot.  Otherwise we'd have a lot more to worry about than just one hen over.  The officials would probably want to know about the 11 extra ducks.

I say first prize is a calculator! :P

Went out with my partner on saturday and wednesday.

First mallard is a young drake at least that's what my buddy told me, olive bill, with flanks and light 1/3 bottom chest.
1 hen mallard.
3 Ruddy's (apparently they're 0 points anyways but not my fault they come to the canoe while i'm paddling....)
1 GW teal

pretty good for my first duck hunts ever.

Gettin pretty pumped up for saturday morning.

Great shooting M-59! I think you only get 5 pts as the team for the full limit.  My math shows you at 49 for the week.

G.D., I was wondering about that. It sounded as though if you were hunting by yourself you got 5 pts for a limit? I guess it must mean as a team you must limit. I just wish I could talk ol" Cooter into shootin' some of those bonus birds.
