Westport Shore Fishing..
« on: May 11, 2013, 07:55:14 PM »
Tell me where to go and what to use please. I suck.
Whatever for lingcods, black rockfish, greenlings. Etc.  :dunno:
Spent all day out here and nothing but a sunburn. And its starting to get under my skin... (the frustration) that is.

If you want to just catch greenlings, just put a 3"-4" white soft plastic (worm) with a curly tail on with a walleye jig head (1/4-1/2 ounce). Cast out into the kelp beds (if those exist in Westport) and retrieve while jigging. Sometimes in just seaweed or structure works too

Then rig that greenling up and catch a ling! If you are fishing the jetty, you can throw out wilson pt. darts for lings as well. I also slay rockfish on a crippled herring lure in a glow body and a green back (I don't think that the color matters as long as it is fluttering) Casting it out and retrieving/jigging it into rocks is a little sketchy though. That is why I broke down and got a kayak  :chuckle:

Fish the South Jetty out past the green can.  Use sand shrimp close to the bottom for kelp greenlings.  Use small greenlings for ling cod bait.  Rig greenings 5' under a large bobber and let it swim around the rocks and hold on.  For bass, use white or black grubs, floating rapalas or spoons.

Yeah I hear ya, not fun trying catch fish when the weather is cruddy and they're not biting. I was thinking you should be able to get perch off the jetty too although I've never tried it. The worse day of fishing is better than any day of work. Good luck.

I used to do a lot of jetty fishing years ago. Used sand shrimp mostly but piling worms occasionally, very hard to keep on the hook but the fish love them. On the way down once we stopped at 7-11 and got some nachos drowned in chili & cheese, when we got the piling worms all we had handy to put them in was the bowl full of leftover chili & cheese. The fish go nuts for piling worms in chili & cheese sauce if you can keep it on the hook. Did it many times after that first trip.

I'm almost positive it's against the law in Puget Sound nowadays but not sure about the Coast. Just didn't want anyone to get busted.
