# 20 moose down
« on: October 09, 2008, 09:23:19 AM »
Sorry to say I couldn't hold out for the world reccord! :dunno: Who cares about the score anyway? We had a great 6 days of hunting. Called in 14 bulls and turned down 2 good opportunities at smaller bulls. This bull I shot was up on the ridge and we spotted him in the BIG EYES ( as the grandkids call them)  I called to him and he turned and headed our ( wifey and I ) way. He was at least 300 yrds out . We were on an old grade above the 290 road and the wind was in our favor so we walked down the grade to get away from the Dodge and the bull took about 20 minutes to come in. I kept my wife close by because it was very important to me that she get to experience this at my side.  ;) The bull talked all the way in and even had a wine in the grunts as he got closer. I was able to shoot him at 15 yards and the arrow went in up to the fletches .  :IBCOOL: He ran down to the grade we were on and up it about 75 yards towards the truck! he staggered left and right then fell dead ON THE GRADE!! the truck was just about 100 yards away :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL: We were able to shin him out and came back the next morning and cut, loaded and left by 9am!!Not bad for a couple of old grandparents!! :chuckle:
We had our friends with us for part of the season but they and our son had to go home for a few days. Learning the road system was the hardest part of the hunt. Many of the roads aren't on the maps. New logging in the area . The east side of the unit showed the most moose activity and camping areas are abundant. The residents in the area were really glad to help with any info and we might have gotten on a couple larger bulls if we had known the area better. BUT We're Very happy with our hunt. Any Questions?? Thanks for everyones guidance and help!! Smokey

Excellent Blessed, you are a stud getting him with archery gear. Another great bull hits the ground and a tagged one at that. Do you get to keep the tag or do you have to pull it off? I would call first before removing it. Congrats young man, a real trophy you got there.

Wow, excellent bull!!  Especially since he fell on level ground 100 yrds from the truck... I always end up packing them 3 or 4 miles.  :bash: :bash: :bash:
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

That is a great hunt. Very neat that your wife was there with you and that you were able to call him in and take him with your bow at such close range. I am sure you were extremely excited. You are in for some very good eating. So far I have had a few meals of heart and tenderloin from the bull I shot last Saturday. Brian.

You need to find out the details on the tag like where the bull came from and stuff.  It would be interesting...

Thanks every one of you. Maybe they will let me know about the moose (yea right ) .  :o
I realy am looking forward to the dinners that will rekindle the memories.
I wish all of you will draw a tag while you're young enough to enjoy it.
I feel lucky now! I might draw that sheep tag next year!!  :chuckle:

How great to get him with a bow :IBCOOL: I'm a bow hunter, but I havn't picked it up for two years, now that I moved. I should have had by buddy pack it for me. :bash: I let my bull come to 37 yds before I neck shot him, then had to put two more in him :chuckle: I know one arrow would have done the job just fine. Again good job and call the game Dept. on that ear tag.
