What dog food do you use?
« on: May 12, 2013, 09:16:07 AM »
What dog food do you use? I'm currently using the Kirkland brand super premium puppy food for my 6 month old Gsp/weim. He seems to have a healthy coat and his weight seems fine. I've heard both good and bad about it. So is it good or not?

My vet recommends Costco dog food for bird dogs and so do I...  been feeding it for 10+ years to all my dogs. The Kirkland brand is made by Diamond and there are those on here that won't feed it because of Diamond recalls-the dog food distributed on the west coast has never been affected.  All my dogs eat the Kirkland Lamb and Rice except my newest dog, 13 mo BLF, who has had digestive issues since day one.  She is on Natures Domain grain free Salmon and Sweet Potato, sold exclusively at Costco-great food but a bit more pricey.

Blue buffalo large breed puppy in chicken.  Expensive but she doesn't carry excess weight.

Check your dogs belly for discoloration or spots, maybe black or dark brown could other colors too.  If you see something this maybe an indication that the dog is allergic to that food.

Benefull works for my dog.

Avoderm, but prices keep going up.  If she were younger I'd switch to costco.
Old enough to know better.
Young enough to go for it.

How much should large breed puppy at 6
Months of age be eating? I've been going off the recommended chart amount on the side of the bag which is about 6 cups a day (3 cups in the morn and 3 in the afternoon.) is this enough?

I don't know about your pups nutritional requirements, but generally Three cups is a lot of food for a pup to eat in one sitting. if your schedule allows, feed him three times a day.

that's a lot of food IMO , never go by the chart go by your dog ... all my dogs eat about 3-4 cups each per day .. and I have labs and a weim. that run around a lot out here and hold weight really good.
