where to get quail for dog training?
« on: October 09, 2008, 12:12:59 PM »
I've been looking to get some coturnix quail to run my gsp pup on so she can be ready to go here pretty quick. I used to be able to get the birds just down the road but she stopped breeding the little buggers. Anyone know where to get some quail around the enumclaw/puyallup/tacoma area? Any info would be great thanks.

How old is the pup?  How about wild birds?  Their free and there's no better training tool.  I had my pup out last year at 8 months old, he quickly learned the difference between wild and training birds.  I did get training birds from a guy in Duvall (chukar & pheasants), if your on this side let me know and I'll see if I can dig up his number.

The pup is about 5 and 1/2 months old. I want a controlled situation or I would have taken her quail hunting with my older gsp. I'm gonna try pigeons, I got some of those. I'm probably going to take her on the pheasant opener but I have a feeling she's gonna be bored with the way the hatch was this year. I'm on the westside, if you could pm the numbers that would be great. Thanks Rob
