 :whoo:, Nice.....
To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.

This spring bear hunt has been alot of fun. We put in as a group not expecting to draw this year, just gain points. We have put in alot of time scouting/hunting so far this spring from day 1. The bears in the area we hunt have been pretty dead until the last week -1/2. We are in the woods just about every weekend, and nights after work, when Errett has no baseball. Errett had another bear in front of him 2 sundays ago, but had a scope malfunction :bash:
There isn't much of a story. We went in to one of our areas from a different gate. The night before I was up there by myself, and found a bunch of fresh peels, and crap. We had just parked, and were walking down the road toward the section of road I wanted to hunt, when Errett raised his gun, and said "dad... bear''. This bear was about 40-50 FEET in front of us eating grass. The wind was in our favor obviously, and that bear had no idea we were standing there with our guns on her. Right then my phone began to ring.  :bash: :bash: :chuckle: I Had forgotten to put it on vibrate, and that phone rang through the whole cycle. (in my back pac) If that bear heard my phone she wasn't to concerned, because she never reacted to it. On about the last ring of my phone Errett pulled the trigger, and dropped the bear in her tracks :IBCOOL: Not a very big bear, about 120#,but his first of many more to come.
After we had the bear down the work began. We tried to make a few calls, but neither of us had reception........not since right before shot. :chuckle: :chuckle: (funny how that works). I did get a few messages out, and got a hold of Pencil sketcher to help us out.(Thanks Dude). We were up till about mid nite skinning, and processing. It's in the freezer, and I'll be heading to the Taxi here some time today.
This is Erretts' first bear. He 's shot at 2 others in the last few years, but missed. I'm very proud of him. He has been comming out in the woods with me since before he could walk. He has shot  3 blacktail bucks, and now 1 bear in the last 4.5 years. With the first buck we had to set his gun on a log (at 9yrs). Last night he shot standing up without a rest like a pro. His shot was a bit high due to how close the bear was, but worked out because it was a spine shot.    He's now hooked on bear hunting, and can't wait till August.
