Best .223 scope for under $1,000
« on: May 15, 2013, 08:13:29 AM »
We just picked up a Remington VTR .223 and are wanting to now focus on some optics. 100% predator gun! Been thinking a Minox 5-20, maybe a Vortex but love Leupolds also.

What would you top it with?
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

Bushnell Elite 6500 2.5-16.

I just bought a Vortex scope for my new Ar15 for under $300. Real clear. If you want to spend more they had some awesome Carl Zeiss scopes in the bargain cave at Cabela's for $600-$800 (looked brand new ).

Cant beat a Mark AR Leupold. Built for the 223 and has the dials from the factory. You can go 3-9 4-12 or 6-18 all inside your price range easy.

I quess it would depend on how your hunting preds.  I call them and save fur so I don't lob heavies a long way.  I like a plain duplex or Ger.#4 w/ill. dot most of my shots are under 300yrds so I can hold on fur the whole way.  I get more close in shots and hunt a lot of heavier cover so 1.5x6x40mm scopes work great for me, FOV is more important than X's.  No target turrets or parallax adjustments so there is nothing to forget to set back between stands.

For somebody that feels the need for more X's the Elite 4200 2.5x10x40 makes a great compramise scope, enough X's and a pretty good FOV for that sneaky little guy that seems to appear at you boot laces.

I have one of the 4200 2.5x10's on a 22-250 that we keep in the truck while we're scouting or bird hunting to pick off one we just spot out in the field.  Just orderred another to go on a little 222Rem 20"barrelled varmint rig.

Turrets work very well. You still have to prove the loads and test your dials but they flat out work. Set your zero spin you dial to your range and adjust for windage, then bang flop dead :chuckle:

camofire has been running Zeiss Conquest's for significant mark downs.  the 4.5-14 x 44 with z 800 reticle will be on today 5/17.

They have also run the 6.5-20 with the z-1000 reticle in the last month or so.

Works very well on my rifle.   And if your load is enough different than the turret it comes with, Leupold will cut you a custom turret for $60.  Great scope for the money.
