Cam security and camoflauge

I thought I'd post what I have started doing to conceal and protect my cams.  I made my own stencils, and applied a little redneck ingenuity with some spray paint.  The lock box pictured is an old ammo can I had laying around, slapped a hasp on it, drilled a couple of "just in case" drain holes, and a couple of more holes in the back for lag screws .  I decided to leave a "roof" above the cutout to help keep the rain off of the lense. I'm looking for any other ideas out there, so feel free to post pics of what you have done.

hey thats pretty slick ive got a buddy up here that has lost three cameras in two years to thieves i will pass that idea on to him.

Thanks for the idea man, When I pick up a trail cam eventually. Im def going to do that. Would hate to spend 100-200 bucks just to find out its a heavy traffic hunter area and someone just got a free camera
Would take alittle bit more inginuity then your average hunter has on to him to actually remove it from the tree, specialy if theres some type of locking device. Maybe drill some screw holes, mount a lock, then stripp the threading to the tip of your lock mechanisms bolts so they cant just simple unscrew the lock.

Still... Wont stop a rival hunter from smashing in your lenses, which would make me even more mad then actually losing it. Means someones intentially trying to make my time here harder. When if it just disapeared, Its kinda unexplained. Coulda been lots of things.

Maybe even wrap the box itself in some type of burlap sack? I see camo ones all the time at the stores, that way you could actually add foliage to it, by just sticking ends of branches or grass through the stitching in the burlap sacks. Takes away some of the "boxy" shape!

After I put the hasp on, I took some JB Weld, and gouped up both the head and thread end of each fastener along with the bolt.  In the back of the ammo can, I drilled a couple of holes so that I could have the option to lag bolt this to a tree.  In conjuction with a pad lock, I will also use a cable lock. 

I really like the idea of the burlap, I'll have to try that one!  I usually grab a piece of small deadfall and inconspicuously lean that over my cam, and hang some moss and old man's beard around it as well to deter attention.  The burlap may just be the ticket!

I aprreciate your idea  in less then an hour including buying some bolts and a hasp for a whopping 7 dollars I have a workable lockable box. guess we'll try it out on bears now. I'll paint it later if I have time.

Looks good!  I'm now windering why I didn't place my hasp in the same place.  Looks like it would be that much more secure!

I have a buddy who's been hanging his trail cams 10' - 12' or so off the ground and uses a small wedge to angle it downward.  He doesn't have a locking device (smart) but he's lost fewer cameras since not many people are walking with ladders and tree stand equipment in early scouting season. 

Maybe like game, guys are not so much looking up.  He's only lost 1 in the past 5 years whereas before he lost about 1 per year.

I would like to hang it higher but I dont want to pack in a ladder either I also forgot about your rain shield...I will have to do with out one

I made homemade stencils also and my paint jobs look eerily similar to yours.

but i haven't been hard core enough to make lock boxes - yet.     I love your idea.

I've lost 3 cams in the last 3 years to thieves/scum, so.....

I just bought my first two cameras last year and only got one person picture between the two of them.  I never did lock them at all but am sure worried about someone stealing one.  I like your ideas for locking up cameras.  I always thought that it would be kind of fun having two cameras pointed at each other.  Would love to get a picture of some camera thief someday and let justice be served.
