It is amazing how many large bucks are around here in city limits.  I was on the lower south hill by Altamont at dusk and almost hit 3 nice whitetails running down the road.  Also had a moose walk through my yard and out the back ally 3 years ago on 37th and Grand.

Was that the same moose that went thru Manito CC.? We have seen deer, moose, yotes and turkeys out here in the valley.

Best I ever saw was a coyote on Wabash between Maple and Ash going home one night. I also remember one summer there was a group of does in the treed area out Indian Trail before you get to Strong Rd.

A little off topic, but I was just at a conference in Spokane and played golf in hangman valley, what a piece of heaven that area is. I saw some very weird people in town but just out of town 5 minutes is a beautiful area, especially hangman valley.

The growing season has a large effect on antler development..I hunt deer south of Spokane all the way up to the Canadian border and there is a big difference on the stage of growth from the 2 extremes. The vegetation in gmu 127 versus 101 is almost 3 weeks in green-up difference. It shows in antler growth..my bucks I watch in ferry in mid June look like the bucks here in mid may.

The largest buck I ever harvested was a 6x5 on May 18th with about 110" of antler..finished with 199" but all big bucks (over 160") will have substantial antler on their head by early June.

I have also noticed the mountain bucks are generally behind the Spokane area bucks in growth.

I live a few houses from the Maple/Ash S Curves, just south of Garland.  There's a small wooded area just above the S Curves.  Yesterday I watched 2 velvety bucks and 2 does wander around.

A few years ago, when we got 6' of snow in 3 days, I stepped out on the porch for my morning smoke to see 2 Mulies (YES Mule Deer) in our driveway.  They crossed the street, jumped the guard rail and headed north on Maple.  Surprised the heck out of me!
