Federal Ammo Question
« on: May 17, 2013, 11:52:53 AM »
So I bought  a box of federal  180 grain soft points  for my 30~06. I have never shot it and I usualy buy rem corloks but they were all out. My question is do the federals in the blue box  work well? Any complaints or pros to  it?  Im  shooting it ouut of an open sight rem 700.

Thanks
DD

Thai is what we shoot in my daughter's .243 and her 4 shot groups at 100 yards can be covered by a nickel.

I have used it in my sons .243 for target practice with pretty good results. Haven't used it for hunting though.

I was lucky to get the 30~06  ammo. In Aberdeen ammo is hard to find.  Or I would have got rem coreloks.  I dont know anyone who relaods  thats close to me. I was shooting 168 grain hand loads and my 700 likes them alot

I haven't bought any factory ammo in I have no idea how long, at least 20 years, so I didn't know that federal had different colored boxes.

:) I like the Fed blue box ammo. For about the last 15 years I find it more accurate and better performing than Rem Core-lokt.

My 270 wsm mod 70 loves this stuff. Most accurate and best grouping stuff I've shot. I use it for high volume shooting and sighting in due to it's low cost.

The ballistics are very close to the red box Federal Premium I actually use for hunting. For hunting I prefer a premium bonded projectile.

:yeah:

I switched to Federal about 15 years ago as well and had the same result way better accuracy the soft points should be comparable to the cor-lock  :twocents:

I have a Remington 7mm model 700...the federals just dont perform well for me. Remington ammo is more accurate in my gun for sure.

I just about sold my 44 mag once. The real reason was I didn't know how to shoot it. So I blamed the Ammo. CCI

But I dry fired it the night before shooting the next day. Had some Federal truncated hollow points that particular day and it was bull's eye after bull's eye.  :dunno: The future e-wife was out of town. Maybe? But Federal has done right by me.

Yeah I can shoot anything through it now.  ;)

Federal blue box ammo is my first choice when buying ammo. Great success with a number of cartridges. I will bet you will like it better than the Core loks.
