charter question
« on: June 10, 2013, 08:25:05 AM »
Si I have family coming up from california and they want to do some fishing they will be here around july 15th and my uncle wants to take a charter. Ive gobe with pacific several times over the years but never during that time of year so was wondering if its worth the trip. I dont want to waste our time and money if its not a good time to go. Usually thats when im stealhead fishing so any info on how good the fishing is down there around that time would be very helpful. Thanx

Ocean salmon should be going pretty good by then.  Coho will be on the smallish side still.  I'd do a combo salmon/bottomfish trip if you can as an insurance policy.  Lings have been great this year and there should be plenty left for the catching by then.
I"m going out of Westport for salmon in early August, so post us up a report!

Mid July should be decent fishing out of westport, but you really never know. It can be great fishing one day out of westport and dead the next, those fishing are all just moving through, mostly down the coast until later in August when the grays harbor fish show up.

I stick to Neah bay until August, then move down to westport so if you can swing a trip up there, I would put money on you being in fish every day. Mid July should be prime time up there, westport can be totally hit or miss. If you can't make the long trip up to Neah Bay, I wouldn't say it would be a waste of time at all to book a trip or two in westport.

The fishing out of Ilwaco (pacific salmon charters) can be even worse as far as being spotty IMO.

Bottom fishing out of Ilwaco is great too, I have never seen a ling caught on a boat I have been on from Ilwaco. TONS of rockfish.
