My family has been hunting unit 346 for over 20 yrs, and usually see big bulls every year. Both my brother and I have 600 feet each of nylon rope on Reelcraft hose reels, 12,500 pound winches mounted on carriers with quick connects forward and rear on our 4X4s,  and use snatch blocks that we mount to trees by chain and shackles on the highside of the logging spur roads which allows us to load the elk whole (although I have never had to quarter one we do know how and bring our packboards just in case).  We have over a 50% success rate for spikes.  We put in as a group for modern any bulls and have 10 pts each for this years draw.  I just received Jason Phelp's wonderful elk call in honor of Aaron.  I have my fingers crossed for the draw and hopefully will be able to post pictures of 3 good bulls (brother, nephew, and I) with "Aaron's" call in the picture.  Even though I'm 62 yrs old and my brother 64 yrs old, we still get up the hills and into the elks bedding and cover areas, and do call in some pretty nice bulls every year ... just need the tags !  Fingers are crossed ....
You dont by chance drive a big Ford do you? I seen this setup on a rig last year up there... Cool idea
I kill elk and eat elk, when I'm not, I'm thinking about killing elk and eating elk.

It doesn't matter what you think...

I drive a Royal Red with Gold trim 2009 F-350 Superduty Lariat Kings Ranch (1 ton). If you see me flag me down and introduce yourself.  Brother drives a 3/4 ton Chevy Silverado greyish in color. Or stop by camp ...  we camp just back from the end of Rock Creek Road ... 25 ft Springdale Trailer, 20 ft x 10 ft garage for eating tent ... kind of hidden back in the trees so a little hard to find.

Last year we just dragged my brother's elk about 100 feet down the hill and slid it on 6 mil black plastic into the back of his truck.  Didn't even use the rope and winches to load it whole. Once back at camp we yarded it up on the meat pole using a winch as we skinned, cleaned, sawed it in half (using a battery operated reciprocating saw), and then bagged it using our "half" elk bags (two quarter bags sewed together for each half).  We took it down to Naches the next day for processing. It was ready for pickup before the trip was over.
