hey turkey would you leave something on the sidewalk  for a month and expect to come back to it? In an ideal world i suppose, but not reality would be my guess.

I haven't read this entire thread, but I think the best thing I read on here is the importance of putting down your contact information on your camera.  If it goes missing and nobody contacts you, and it turns out you've got pictures of people like this, then yes they more than likely stole it.  However, who's to say they pulled it down so that it wouldn't be destroyed, with no intention of theft, just protecting the camera. Had contact information been in it they could have contacted the owner.

Heck timber cutters that work for us come across cameras all the time.  Maybe I'll just let them know the next ones they come across they can just dump the tree and let the camera get all smashed up on the way to the landing.  I mean, they shouldn't lay a finger on it right, just go on with business as usual as though it's not even there?  Damned if you do, damned if you don't I suppose.  :dunno:

That is a much better alternative than trying to help someone

Like I said earlier in this thread. I would hope that people would leave it a lone, but expect someone to screw with it. But if I can catch those responsible am I to just let it go. I don't think so and neither would you.

wow..for being gone a while and seeing this :chuckle:

The intent of this was to post pics of the cougar and yes another cam was gone and I had a pics of the supposedly people responsible for it..some asked for the pics of the said people and I posted them..I also stated why I thought they were the ones responsible , and NOWHERE did I trash them! after a few phone calls I found my camera and I deleted the pics end of story.

I have read it all on here and its asinine what some have said..from I took this too far, I trashed them and etc...how in the hell did I take this to far? I did the logical thing and anything short of it woulda been sitting on my a-ss! and saying "oh well Ill just buy another". Now others on here may have taken it to far or trashed or whatever, but that's them.

anyhow..The man I spoke with was very nice and we had a nice conversation and that was it..end of story and shoulda been end of the thread. As some have stated already I have handle this properly and the right way as I have.

 :yeah: :yeah: :yeah:

and for all those that keep comparing leaving it on a sidewalf or along a road...WTF stupid comparison. when we strap a cam to a tree we take the risk that it might get burnt, eaten by a bear, logged, stolen, struck by lightening ETC.
THATS A RISK WE ARE WILLING TO TAKE!!!!!!!!!!!  :bash:
but when a guy takes the CORRECT actions to get his cam back he gets called a hater. really guys really???
something to take from this is label your items with contact info for the HONEST guy and just leave other peoples crap alone!
END OF STORY

I would be interrested to extract from the forest service the quantity of cams removed over the years compared against the amount of cams returned to owners.

I have a feeling if we knew those numbers Ice, we would all be very irritated.

That is my thought.

Not blaming the guys in the pics, but they should understand the public's perspective...that items may very well be removed, but I bet that the effort to return these items, or set them aside long enough to possibly be located/found by the owner is small.

You know if nothing else is garnered out of this thread at least there will be some trail cams that are properly identified and may ultimately aid in getting some of them back to their rightful owners.

You know it may not be a bad idea to find out just exactly what the forest/timber company's policies are regarding property they come across in the woods. Everything nowadays has a policy with how you handle and deal with things in the process of doing something else.

Encountering personal property while in the field? Identified property/ Non identified. I think it's reasonable to inquire about such things..Certainly as sportsmen who spend a decent amount of time and money in all things outdoors. If nothing currently exists in their policies and procedures..Then its time to make change.  Hate to suggest more policy but sometimes its hard to fire people who are not told what the policy and procedures are when dealing with certain situations.

You should be real thankful and appreciative you got it back..I lost a 250.00 camera that i would take back in a new york second no questions asked and be grateful for the effort and the honesty of those who made that happen..They could have very easily describe it to you to the "T" and said nope we haven't seen it..Sorry and you would be SOL.

I think originally people felt for ya and your loss but as the thread ran a muck with hate and accusations that revealed some very interesting "perspectives" and "insights"into those who share some of the same interests.

I choose to see people for the good.... especially when they help me out

Glad you got it back and hopefully future encounters (and there will be more) will have happy endings because of what was learned in here

Twisted perspective that chooses to ignore much of the obvious.  My super senses tell me someone is full of bias.

Don't all of our biases influence our perspectives?  My super senses tell me that most folks like to be critical and accuse others of twisted perspectives when they don't align with their own.

I feel enlightened by the different perspectives and twisted bias that have formulated all of these hypothesis.

That all came from a redneck too. :)
