I'm not a big fan of August bear hunting. It's better in Sept. ,Oct, way better odds of getting them out unspoiled, hides are better later. Could you delay another month?

I don't think I'd take much advice from Shane Vander Goat. Think about it. Dragging the bear over to the snow field....... in August! Unless you are half goat and hunt WAY up there like he does (I know where he hunts) finding snow may be difficult!  :bdid:         :chuckle:

My elk last year took almost 8 hours to get out. I shade it gutted skinned and quaterd in less then 2 hours of it dying.  Hung quarters in near by trees to cool than packed it all out.

Shane is an animal. I've watched his video's and it makes me feel like a lazy slob! I wish I had his youth and enthusiasm.
I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I'm not!

thanks guys, I appreciate the feed back thus far. shanevg does sound like an animal when it comes to the woods but shane I respect that kind of vigor! I feel like you should enjoy those "back 40" experiences while your young enuff to get out there to them. that's kinda where im at in life, just wanna make sure im being respectful to the animal. again thanks everyone for the input :)

Diggie-d, great attitude displayed. I am convinced you will do your bear right.

Ill tell you from experience being part of 30+ bear harvest..theres no chance in hell Id eat a bear left over night unless it was 20 deg or colder. and that would be iffy...Bears are nothing like deer and elk meat. I have seen bears shot before dark and to be found in first hour of light smell like a rotten animal. I have even packed out a few super fast and on ice to have them go bad.
