Deer Dilemma

I need some advice on deer hunting my property.  I have about 200 acres of CRP on the Rattlesnake, (the lighter colored land in the picture).  The red line heading NE is about .42 miles from some amazing muley ground.  The land between my property and the deer area is well established CRP, about 2-3 feet tall.  I've seen some big bucks out there, and a ton of does, but don't have the rights to hunt it.  I would like to take a couple of acres of the CRP and try to attract more deer to my property.  Am I crazy or is this something that is somewhat feasible?  I am willing to do whatever it takes to have a fun safe place for me and my kids to hunt and have fun, heck maybe a couple of you guys as well.

If it were me, I woulld clear some of MY land and plant a food plot to attract the deer.

Where is the water?  May be as easy as giving them a clean water source with a little treat every once in a while (sweet cob mix, cob, etc....

Guys that i hunted with used give me a hard time because i hunted the CRP fields it was amazing how many deer it held i had one big buck that stayed out in the stubble fields till everyone got by and down in to the draws then he would just take his time and make it to the CRP i thought i had him one morning but he out smarted me and got to the CRP never did get him he had a big rack on him water and CRP makes a good home for deer

If you had the resources, you could put a water pond up by the red line and run pipe back to your farm.  Then, when needed you could just water it from the farm.  Figure out how long the water will last in the pond and refill as needed.  That is a long way to run pipe though.

the best thing to do is get some apples lots of apples bins of apples you know it is legal to bait deer..... i would put a bin close to the fence just before its gone put another deeper into your property then deeper until you get them were you want them.... dont forget to put up a cam so much easier then trying to put water dont forget some salt licks to enhance horn grouth happy hunting

Are you sure about this?, I have been told otherwise.

Also why wouldn't all enrolled CRP land be available to look up on  the internet, kind of like the GO HUNT feature ?

I know landowners who hear this every year while the sheriff, or the gamewarden hands the fellow who took this bad advice a ticket.  If its crp on private land why would you think you could tresspass to utilize it because its a conservation reserve contracted by the fsa doesn't mean you as a taxpayer own it.

Bad Bad Bad idea     You cannot hunt private lands even if they are in the CRP Program. The Gammie or the Sheriff will nab you every time they catch you. Getting bad info that you can hunt it or be out there doesn't matter to the Law Man when he writes you a ticket for trespassing.

You may get lucky with a bunch of salt licks on your place.
It may be that they don't have any salt any where else near by, and may start using your place if they had something to bring them over.
The water idea is good too.
Or I might suggest a few trees. Heavy cover is good for holding them on your place.

Apples, salt, COB, food plots, water tank are all good ideas.

However, it's important to not overestimate the results of a food plot or bait.  Bucks will find and return to these offerings but if you're not making them very convenient to their established daily pattern, the deer will not be by too often.

.42 miles isn't a super long distance as far as muleys are concerned but I think the real results of a food plot won't be evident for a few years.  Nothing like delayed gratification!

Is it posted? If it's not posted and its CRP go hunt it we leased it with our tax dollars they can't post it because we leased it with our tax dollars. If you get a ticket fight it. Call Tred Barta he might pay for your lawyer. Or find out who owns it and ask his permission maybe he will say go ahead.

Yes they can post private land that is enrolled in the CRP. Why do you keep saying that? Private land is private land. The government didn't lease it. All they're doing is paying the farmer not to farm it.

Oh boy!!!!!!!  This guy is nuts. So your trying to say if you had a garden in you backyard and somebody paid you to stop using it as a garden and plant grass it becomes their property? DO NOT LISTEN TO HIM. (I mean unless you want a trespassing ticket)

I will admit I am being crazy and that I don't always have the balls to do it. I also don't know this guys situation, is it posted? Do you know the landowner? Did he already tell you not to hunt his land? all things to consider you don't want bad blood with your neighbors. But think about it the argument has validity.

You sign a contract saying you will not farm the ground and plant a grass to prevent erosion!!!! NOT a lease for them to control your land. Our tax funded programs such as BLM and state/school land are going to buy the property therefore we can hunt it. If you actually think this is true you come hunt with me this year and I will show you some crp to hunt.
