Bear problem
« on: May 24, 2013, 03:52:34 PM »
Any thoughts on how to keep this bear out of my deer feed. I've tried relocation(only about 2/3 of a mile, I want to keep the feeding where the best deer run). It took the bear less than 6 hours to find it after my last move. Right now I am feeding sweet cob and salt, and will switch over to salt only, once enough deer find it. Any suggestions?

And yes, bears do sh*t in the woods.

Find a different food that bears don't eat.

Nope....if you move farther you will simply have a different bear. Cob, blocks, apples...all that stuff gets hoovered by boo boo. The only thing I have seen that does not specificly draw them in is salt. The may check it out, have a lick, but don't think they will seek it out and hang around chowing like they do with cob.

Thanks h20, I was hoping once I switch to salt only, boo boo would wander off.

One thing I have heard, but don't have any first experience with is to take some treats like the Twinkie replacements, jelly doughnuts, any pastry that has a cream or jelly filling.  Then slip some jalapeno, habanaro or other really, super hot peppers inside the treats.

Deer don't usually eat that type thing (so they say), and it is supposed to really discourage the bears from coming back.  Just a thought, because like was mentioned, you will either get a different bear if you move or that one may just follow.

I told a co worker I would give him $5 too eat a habanero the other day. He didn't think that small pepper would be that much hotter than a jalapeno. He popped the damn thing like a cherry chewed and swallowed it. About half way through his face went from "i got this" to "FML!" I gave him a $20. :chuckle:

I don't think that bear is actually 'in' the woods  :dunno:. He looks like he is totally 'out' of the woods going doo doo.
I'm sorry but - I think we need more proof  :sry:  :chuckle:
