Doves?
« on: May 28, 2013, 09:52:59 AM »
Any dove guys here?

I love to hunt 'em almost as much as I love to eat 'em!

Only got a couple days in last year, looking to get a few more in this year.

Do you call them? I call doves to my house all the time. I was wondering if people do that when they hunt them.

9701- Never tried? Sounds fun though!

Fowl- Dove breast wrapped in bacon on a hot grill has been known to hit the spot, though fajitas sound great as well!

Wish I lived in Eastern Wa some times. I love dove hunting, but never seem to go because it's usually a 4-5 hour drive.
I know right??
sounds rediculus... but I should go more often.

One of my most favorite hunts.
Growing up in the South, I have killed more than I can count.
After the first year moving out here, I have finally figured out some areas to have decent hunts.  Had 5 or 6 limit days last season and a few days with a 5 to 8 count.  Put a good bit in the freezer, and only have 15 left.  I'm ready for September and to get the big game out of the way to chase them little guys.

are the ones in your yard mourning doves or Eurasian collared doves?  the collared doves can be shot year round and I think no limit.  they are an invasive species,....  a tasty invasive species.   :chuckle:

I have hundreds of collared doves at my place....

Sept 1 is getting closer!

I'm thinking about hunting around Moses Lake this year. I joined a small club that has some property leased up. Don't know if any of them carry doves though?

About time for a scouting trip!

You don't need to hunt a lease to find doves around Moses Lake, there are plenty of them throughout the wildlife areas.    If the lease has trees, water, and rain crops nearby I expect you'll find doves.

I haven't seen most of the properties.

I hunted pheasant a couple days last year as a guest but it was pretty late in the year, December or so, so no doves around  and I wasn't looking for them. I'll definitely be looking for wheat, water and trees!

I need to make a trip out to find a place to be Sunday morning. I hate driving around on opening day.

Anybody else getting a plan together?

Hopefully I'll make it out to scout/fish for a weekend sometime mid to late August. Then I'll spend Saturday of Labor Day weekend scouting as well. I've compiled a lot of spots over the years so its just a matter of finding which ones the birds are in. Its not far off now!
