I'm going to get my camp set up tomorrow. Doves and Grouse in a week......... Took a weeks vacation so I could chase them all week.
The first bird may get the worm, but it's the second rat that gets the cheese.

I love dove hunting! Always a blast! Also love them marinated in Italian dressing, wrapped in bacon and grilled!

Oh yeah. Dove for breakfast and grouse for dinner.

My usual spots have a bunch flying around. Looks to be good.

Just wondering if they are even worth going after near JBLM. Gonna try to talk the wife into letting me shoot a few on Monday. I'm trying to look on the inter-web but can't find anything about where to go. Don't want to travel too far. Anybody know of any nearby? :dunno:

In general no.  However, certain state wildlife areas, refuges and other areas may require that you use steel shot in that particular area.  But if you are hunting outside of those areas, you are good to go with lead shot.

If you are hunting a WDFW pheasant release site or Corps of Engineers pheasant release site you'll need steel shot.  The areas will be posted as such.   It's never a bad idea to take a box along just in case.   I've had to use steel for chukars in the Swakane.

So that brings a question to mind...

Wdfw release sites ... Can you hunt dove on them in general?  Can't say I've looked in a couple years but I can't remember seeing Dove as a 'typical' hunt species on the descriptions ... Or are those descriptions just guidelines and not  a listing of allowed species?

Yes, you can hunt them.  It just depends on the release site if they are a good spot to hunt doves.  Lower Crab Creek is one spot that comes to mind.

Honestly, doves are pretty much a typical species anywhere east of the Cascades where you can find grain and water.
