Lincoln
« on: April 26, 2013, 08:03:51 AM »
Prior to the season we found what looked like fresh sign.  A couple of torn up trees and some scat.  Now three weeks later, nada...

A bunch of deer and lots of boot time...  :dunno:

It's not an easy hunt. It will be better in 3 to 4 weeks.

Have you tried calling with a fawn in distress sound?

Are you talking Lincoln county or Lincoln GMU?

If Lincoln GMU, I've seen some serious FRESH sign in some areas while out trying to find that ghostly Eastern Turkey lol.

Lincoln GMU  PM me if your willing to share and I'll do the same if I mistakenly call up any turkey.  I was out calling for elk a couple years ago... no elk, but we did call in some turkey.  Maybe I'm doing it wrong.... LOL

Wife and I went out for an evening hunt and saw a huge boar.  Too little time and too much distance.  Tried hard but just couldn't make it happen.  didn't get home until 2300 so morning hunt is out.

If it had just been me, I would have camped in the truck.  Wife needs a bed.

Still working it.

Well I cant say that I didn't have my opportunity.  I saw two nice bears.  One was too far out and it was starting to get dark.  Another was at first light.  I made what I thought was a good shot at about 75 yards.

The bear ran off but it was obvious that it was hit.  My Father and I waited about 45 mins before we attempted to find what I was sure was a dead bear nearby.

After hours in the brush, I only found that sickening feeling you get when you know its over and your empty handed.  It started raining and any remaining blood trail was lost.

I called WDFW and begged for the opportunity to use a dog to track any remaining scent or trail of the bear.  The answer was NO.  As bad as I wanted to ignore them, I knew that getting caught with a dog would not only result in a fine but probably end my career.

I was heartbroken and sick.  I didn't sleep at all that night and returned the next day to again pound around in the brush.  Again no luck.

So I leave my first spring season empty handed and sick to my stomach.

T
