Legal Rifle Refresher
« on: June 03, 2013, 05:39:24 PM »
Moved out of state and am having trouble remembering/finding information about legal rifles in WA. It is legal to use an M1A for hunting in WA, right? I know you have to use a plug when going for foul--don't think there's a similar requirement for big game?

Thanks in advance,

-Andy

Right, legal.

Yep! Had a buddies dad take his out one deer season. His only problem was trying to match sure it didn't get buggered up on any brush, heavy beast too. But it is fun to unload with that great "ping"!

THERE IS NO ROUND RESTRICITON IN WA! The only place there is a round count restriction is with waterfowl. MY friends have hunted coyotes with AR's and talked with wardens when using 30 rnd mags... NO Problem. Look hard at the rules but there is no restricion on big game either.  :twocents:

Thats not to say that you need 30 rnds to deer elk or bear hunt. A 10 rnder would work fine.  :twocents:

* add in upland bird.  pretty sure with more than 3 shells, you're getting a ticket.

What about grouse?
they are not an upland bird, but are considered small game.

I would guess that with a rifle it don't matter but probably 3 rounds for a shot gun.  :dunno:

My brother deer hunted with an AK... the 7.62x39 has very similar balistics to the 30-30, and you can get hollow points, or soft nosed bullets for it.

Nope you can hunt will ball ammo... I know a couple of people that use it in thier 308 and only take head/neck shots...  Not my bullet of choice however.
