Trouble sighting bow in
« on: June 03, 2013, 08:13:00 PM »
I have been shooting the same set up for about 3 years now and I am having some difficulties shooting consistent shots out of my bow. I got a new string this year a few months ago and don't know what the cause is. Not sure if its my form or if I am shooting bad arrows or what any input would be awesome thanks guys

Try numbering your arrows I find sometimes some arrows just wont shoot right some might hit left everytime or high. Just log the arrow numbered where they hit. Also with a new string you might have some string twist might need to get your peep checked

New strings mean they tinkered with your arrow rest unless you are shooting a whisker biscut.  My guess, if your groups are dramatically worse its a timing issue with your arrow rest.

Timing issues with my rest? My peep seems to be fine and is in place everytime I draw back

If you have a fall away style rest, the timing of it could be off such that it is not falling soon enough and you are getting fletching contact.

Another thing to check is how snug your nocks are on the new string serving.

Who installed it for you?  Are your cams in time?  Did they put it back together correctly?  Is your sight tight?

It's either an equipment issue or a form issue.  Arrows don't go bad.

I got new strings & cables on my Hoyt at Sportsmans warehouse in Federalway about five years ago and it never shot right ever again. I took it to a couple of shops to have them look at it but no luck , the final verdict was to replace the strings & cables again with a new set. I didn't want to put any more money into it and was fed up so it was a good excuse to get a new one.  Mike

Doug at northwest archery has always done my work and I trust him that he checked the timing and tuned it correctly. How would I check my timing on my rest?  I also upped the draw poundage since then. Would that effect it?

There you go. That may be the issue. Are the arrows too weak? Give us a little more info about your setup.

Everyone will give you great  advise that is how it works here  people here are great like that and have gave ne great advice but at this point I would take it to a good shop not a box store get it tuned and timed if problem still occurs change to stronger spine and if that don't work then work on your form just my 2 cents
Good luck it can be frustrating I know I think lots of us have been in your shoes

Is your accuracy poor with field tips or broadheads?

What kind of rest?

How much do you shoot?

Did you take a while off and just get back in to it?

Punching the trigger?

Focusing on target or pin?

I focus on target mostly and I think I may be punching the trigger. I shoot almost everyday but haven't for the last week. I know everyone on here is awesome and I do appreciate all the advice that's why I post on here and no where else. I'm starting to think it might be a form and confidence issue with me. I went out to KBH walk through course a few weeks ago and shot great and all of a sudden it's been an issue that's why I wasn't sure what was going on.

If I were you, I would increase the trigger weight on your release.  Shoot close to your target with your eyes closed and focus your mind on the entire shot sequence starting with your draw, use your back to activate your trigger, and follow through the shot.

Do about 15 of these a night for a week or two and then see how your accuracy is.

I will give that a shot thanks for the advice I have never heard of that before. Maybe I need to actually go to a shooting clinic I have been shooting for ten years but I kind of taught my self so my form might be bad after all. I use to shoot a lot better then I do now, but I shot a 100 arrows a day and was always at the range. Times change with a job and family now. Lol.
