where to fish in my area?
« on: June 04, 2013, 11:25:31 PM »
I live in yelm and I was hoping to find good fishing spots for catfish, walleye, and northern.
For catfish looking to catch to eat not release unless there small.
Walleye, well of course they have to be the right size.
And for northern, looking to catch to eat also. If u can give me some helpful areas I would be gratefully. Remember I live in yelp so can't be over an hour away

All  the fishing you're talking about is in eastern Washington. Their are some tiger muskies in Mayfield Lake off of Highway 12 south of Chehalis and about 15 miles east on the highway.

Harts lake has catfish, but for the other fish you have to travel east.

Weas28-
The 3 species of fish you picked are the exact ones you are least likely to find close to home (with a few minor exceptions).

Harts lake has catfish, but for the other fish you have to travel east.
:yeah: State planted channel cats in a few westside lakes and Harts was one of them. I know it was pretty good several years ago, but haven't heard of many channel cats lately (don't know if plants have continued?).

there are catfish in Ohop lake and Tanwax, but I've never personally seen a big one. Living where you live I would be concentrating on big bass in alder and rife or tiger muskies in mayfield.
Catfish in Ohop, Tanwax, and pretty much every other pond in Western Washington are "Bullheads". They are a species of catfish (and taste pretty good imo), but catfish guys around the country look down on them as inferior to channel/blue etc.

Tiger muskies are about the opposite of a fish to eat...

I haven't fished them but doesn't Swofford Pond have cats  :dunno:
Yes, but again, I'm not hearing much about them lately and not sure if plants have continued.

I live in yelm and I was hoping to find good fishing spots for catfish, walleye, and northern.
For catfish looking to catch to eat not release unless there small.

Lots of good fishing near you- but you need to change species you're targeting!

BTW, what's it like living in yelp? :chuckle:

Spenser Lake by Shelton has some good size cats as well.

Catfish-go to eastern washington and fish places like Lyon's Ferry on the Snake, Potholes, 15 miles or closer to the mouth of the Yakima for channel cats.
Walleye-go to eastern washington and fish places like Moses Lake, Potholes, or the Columbia River below Mcnary.
Northern Pike-go to eastern washington and fish the Pend Oreille River.

There's only a couple places in western washington with channel cats, I think a couple lakes along the Columbia in Vancouver, Swofford Pond, Harts Lake are the ones I know of.

Check out http://wdfw.wa.gov/fishing/washington

Pretty cool site. I think the regions manage their own, as it looks like some areas provide better info than others. However, it does let you look for fish by species.
