arrow build 55 lbs at 31 draw ???
« on: June 06, 2013, 07:33:37 PM »
Im realizing how much better i shoot with light weight.
I got all my arrows built up to 575 grains .250 spine for 70 lb draw.
Id like to have atleast 12 percent foc n stay under  or around 400 grains.
I dont know if i can get away with a 350 spine n putin a little weight up front or not .
Any help n recommendations would be much appreciated

Also, what fletch and number of (3 or 4)? What kind of rest do you shoot with? Are you ok with cutting a shaft down to improve foc and lighten the arrow or do you cut your arrows to match your draw length?

I was of the mind the longer my arrow the better my foc.but i am new to building arrows.
I will spend whatever.
 it takes for quality shafts

If you're looking for a great hunting arrow . . . Victory VAP 350 (v1, v3, v6 it's up to you) , cut shaft at 29", penetrator outsert 50 gr, 100 gr fps/bhs,  3 aae max hunter (or similar) veins ~ 23 grs, bohning f nock or easton g nock ~ 6 gr. Keeps you around 400 grs with ~15% foc. At 55lbs and 31" you'd be shooting ~ 280 fps and producing nearly 71 ft/lbs kinetic energy. Be nice to know what kind of rest you use and whether you shoot with a loop or off the string.

Yeah I know of some guys that are going to shoot black eagle this season and I've heard very good things. Very similar arrow and supposedly real tight tolerances in weight and straightness.

With the VAP you could go with the deep six ss hit insert at 20 grs and i might be even better. It would just limit you in choices for bhs.

The gold tip velocity is a great arrow. A 340 at 8.2 gpi should suite you well if High foc is what your after. A shorter arrow makes for Higher foc and increases spine. A 29" 340 velocity with a good feather (like rayzor's) and a 125grn head should put you close to 390Grn overall and about 15% foc. Just go to gold tips website and select build my arrow, the fun never ends!!

Decided to take xxx archeries advice n ordered up some deep impact lt .300 shafts.
I can build them out to 425 grains and at 70.50 lbs pull will be legal n should be around 300 fps.
Ive never built a fast huntin arrow before n am excited to put these to the test
