Yes there are plenty of cats in that area. This spring I took a friend in the Goldendale area, its his first season in Wa, and he has never seen alot of game we have here. I told him how every year we have a turkey just come walking through camp... He thought I was pulling his left nut, until right around sunset we are getting a fire started and low and behold a hen comes walking through like she was the queen herself. He just sat there and looked at me and shook his head.
About 1 hour later we are talking about critters, and he asked about "them Cats" no more than 5 seconds later We hear the loudest scream ever. He said what the F was that ! I bust out laughing ! He said what ! I said I dont know how you do it, but that right there was a Cat. And the fun began. This cat was about 100 yards off, and crying it damn head off. It would continue for better than 20 minutes ! At one point it sounded a little closer and Greg started beating feet to the truck, as I started laughing harder. I told him it was way over there, just as it stopped and we didnt hear it for about 35 seconds. Thats when we both ended up in the truck! So I rolled down the windows and we continued to listen to this cat scream !
I was dark, and we never did see it. It eventually stopped and moved on. The next morning we looked all around camp for tracks with no avail. It must have been only a 100 yards off in the timber.
I am working in the Goldendale area right now and have rifle and tag daily, if there is a land owner with a cat problem that you know of and he wants it removed, dont hesitate to call !
